Penn State is a big place, so students are sometimes hesitant to make a professor's acquaintance, even though they probably share a great many interests. We know that many students enrolled in large lecture classes feel that faculty members givng the lectures can know them only by student ID number. We cannot make Penn State smaller, but we can facilitate the social interactions between students and faculty that will enable each to know the other a lot better.

The "Take a Professor to Lunch" program runs each fall and spring semester. Each Physics student is eligible to participate once per semester; faculty however, may participate as often as they are asked and as long as their digestion holds up.

Eligibility:

Physics undergraduate students (Freshman Seminar enrollees, students enrolled in Phys 237 or higher, or otherwise approved by department) may ask a professor to lunch. The professor and between 3 and 5 students may go to lunch at a campus location. You can participate in this program only once per semester.

Directions:

1. Get your group (including the instructor) to agree on a weekday lunch date during Fall or Spring semester; you may eat at any Housing & Food Services eatery that uses the point system. Among these eateries are: The Big Onion in East Halls, Blue Spoon Deli in North Halls, Otto's Cafe in Kern Graduate Center, Union Street Marketplace (Coaly's Cafe, Chick-Fil-A, Casa Ortego, Piccalilli's, Union Street Burger Co., Joegies, Sbarro, and Panda Express) in the HUB-Robeson Center, and any dormitory dining commons.
2. Register online (web address to be announced) at least 3 business days prior to your proposed lunch date. You will need to provide the names of all guests, so be prepared.
3. Once your registration is complete, we will confirm with you and the course instructor via email. However, as the student organizer, you will be responsible for confirming with all other guests.
4. We will provide the faculty member with a special charge card and feedback forms from 104 Davey on the day of the event; the cards and feedback forms may be returned in person or through campus mail.
